RunFest Cyberjaya 2012, Malaysia’s first ever social running event starts the 2012 running calendar on January 8, 2012.

Run for fun, charity and bragging rights at RunFest Cyberjaya 2012

runfool™'s inaugural running event, RunFest Cyberjaya 2012, will make for Malaysia's very first social running event. Pitting four 'tribes' against each other, RunFest will have up to 1,000 runners competing for medals, prizes and more importantly, bragging rights.

At RunFest Cyberjaya, these tribes comprise of ultra-competitive athletes, technology and gadget enthusiasts, hip trendsetters and those beyond labels. Participants have to take a fun quiz on the RunFest website to discover which tribe they belong to before registering for the 7km run.

This running movement with a difference is inspired by Chris McDougall's "Born to Run". According to Suren Haris Anwar, the founder of runfool and RunFest organiser, "I felt that the bigger message from the book was to remind us of what we always were; Runners. Running isn't a means to an end. It's a lifestyle that dates back to our ancestral days. We ran to communicate, we ran to love, ran to survive and to thrive. We did this within our little tribes. It's time to unleash these tribes once again."

In keeping with its lifestyle theme, there will be more than just running. Participants and visitors can expect exciting performances from Projek Disko Baldi, Deer Society, Darren Ashley, with singer-songwriter Nadhira headlining the event. A student-based parkour community, Parkour 4 Life will conduct interactive workshops for runners who want to up the ante and learn how to pull off parkour.

runfool is also initiating an independent charity drive, called Projek Kasut, aiming to collect gently-used running shoes for the underprivileged, starting with a community in Kinarut, Sabah. Participants and visitors can donate their gently used running shoes on the event day itself.

Suren also added that "We would like to thank Cyberview Sdn. Bhd., the landowner of Cyberjaya and our venue sponsor, for agreeing to host RunFest Cyberjaya at their Sports Arena."

Registration deadline for RunFest Cyberjaya is on 31st December, 2011. For more information, go to www.runfest.my.
