He's nowhere near retirement as far as we can officially tell, but it's been a worrying issue for ardent Malaysian badminton fans who adore their World No.1 shuttler and have enjoyed the privilege of supporting him over the years. Especially with his accumulating injuries of late.

Lee Chong Wei is a rare and magnificent talent. One that's never easy to come by no matter what part of the world you might be from. Which has its pros and cons; great that we have him, not so great when he retires.

Media reports and Chong Wei himself have hinted at his possibly retirement. Some say he might call it a day after the 2012 Olympics, some say he might do so after the World Championships next year.

Speculation aside and as injuries amount, the inevitable fact is that, one day, not too long from now, Chong Wei will have to hang up his racquet and will no longer be available for us to throw our support behind.

When this does happen, the onus would then turn to another Malaysian shuttler to pick up the torch as Malaysia's finest. The problem seems to be however, that there really doesn't appear to be another Chong Wei in our midst, is there?

The obvious potential torch carriers for now seem to be Darren Liew (World No.28) and Hafiz Hashim (World No.32) to front the line.

But with the Malaysian team failing to impress on the big stage, it's hard to see our nation securing too many trophies without our No.1 Lee Chong Wei on board.

Looking at our typical opponents, they seem to have their futures a little more sorted out than we do at the moment. With Taufik Hidayat already in his prime, the younger Simon Santoso already seems to be proving his worth on the world stage.

At 28, Lin Dan is still within his prime playing years, but China's future seems well taken care of with the awesome duo of Chen Jin (23) and Chen Long (26) already fighting for top honours at every tournament they participate in.

Worrying isn't it?

Right now, it really does seem like the day Chong Wei retires will be as devastating as doomsday, not just for Malaysian badminton fans, but for the entire nation.

Or do you believe that one of our young shuttlers is just around the corner of being able to take on and beat the likes of Lin Dan, Chen Long, Chen Jin, Taufik Hidayat and Simon Santoso?

One important factor is coaches. Malaysian coaches are bunch of jokers. They should also be placed under surveillance and appraisal, too. Don't just blame the players. Their performances are reflective of their coahes' ability and talent to guide them. Year in and year out, the coaches just know how to find excuses for the poor performance of the players. For the Axiata Cup's failure they take Chong Wei as the scape goat; the Olympic factor.

Now, I suggest we must create a multi-level panel of coaches. Demote or expel coaches who don't performance. Promote and treasure coaches who produce winners. Act now. Take off Rashid, Tey, Kim Her (I do not what this joker's credential is), Henry K etc, etc. Take them off right here, right now before we see dilemma in the Olympics. This bunch of jokers will cause more harm than good.  BE MORE PROFESSIONAL BAM!!!!!!!! SAVE MALYSIAN BADMINTON!

Not with the current bunch of players. i saw all played over the Axiata cup n none of them impresses me esp against the Indons. Even sometimes given half court let alone three quarter our players were not able to put the shuttle away. If our players cant beat players like Rumbaka n Tommy, we have no chance against the likes of the chinese n danes. They were run of the mill players. None of them will break into the world top ten at this rate. Forget them. This has nothing to do with the coaches. To b the best, the player has to b extremely fit, extremely strong, extremely fast, extremely skilled in all areas of the game n lastly a thinking player. LIKE LIN DAN

it all depends on the player.some player can be like Lee Chong Wei and some only can for certain part or maybe the rest can't do it even they try to do it.

But we must never give up, as his team partner, we must try to be like him, what are the ways that he use to score the point. what are the skills that he has and we don't have it.

The conclusion is very easy, never give up and keep on trying even if you don't know or you can't. =)

For now, Liew Darren is the second best single after our national hero Lee Chong Wei....i think he could make his own way to the top ten in future like LCW have done...

Coach only plays 20 % to ensure success of the player.

The PLAYER itself that determine whether he can become World no.1 .

Must have physical strength & also a strong mind.

No such thing as tired.

Training...training...training and training.

World class players are trained to tough and play tough when the game gets going tough. They also have weak points. Now Lee Chong Wei  know the weak points and should take steps to toughen up them. If he takes care not to repeat to land the same way to retrieve far right shots.

He can become a good couch to the up and coming players. He must have the good heart to improve the junior players game. Only then we can see more players in the same class as Lee Chong Wee. We do have a few players who are tough like Lin Dan. Lin Dan is not in the same class like Rudy Hartano. Our players can take on Lin Dan in time to come. It is all in the mind and body . Train Them.

SALAM. coaches and players should co-operate well each others. players who not perform well must be advised correctly. Koo Kien Keat for example rarely smash when playing. How could only Tan we hope to smash.Tan Kim Her must look for this  weakness and one more they should play base line and have a good defences.
