1) His first love was actually basketball, not badminton
Believe it or not, despite his magnificence on the badminton court, Chong Wei's preferred choice of sports was actually basketball. However, his mom soon banned him from the sport because of the scorching heat of the outdoors. But as fate would have it, the then 11-year-old Chong Wei decided to pick up badminton after his dad, an avid fan of the sport, brought him along to a badminton hall.
