24-year-old Rahmat Che Hashim wins the right to represent Malaysia at the global finals of Nike’ The Chance’.
After experiencing a 72 hour journey to the most critical moment of their football career, 4 young players have shown their hunger to earn the opportunity of a lifetime to represent Southeast Asia at The Chance Global Finals in Barcelona in August.
Rahmat, who was a replacement for one of the original top 5 Malaysians to represent the country at The Chance regional finals in Jakarta, was clearly shocked and overjoyed. "It is unbelievable because this is my second chance as I was called up after one of the original 5 winners was selected to train with the national team. And I am one of the older players here and this is really my last chance" Rahmat said.
"I would like to thank my parents and friends for their support and I cannot thank Nike enough for giving me this chance of a lifetime. I will give it my best in Barcelona" Rahmat added.
Preparations for the global finals will begin immediately and the 4 players will be mentored by the head coach for The Chance within their respective countries, as well as given guidance and inspiration from an appointed national athlete of their home country. In addition, they will undergo training drills to condition their physical abilities and to continue to develop their skills in preparation for the global finals.
The Chance was first launched in 2010, and has since seen thousands of talented footballers participate in football at the very top level. And this year's program promises to be the most global and competitive yet.
The 8 winners from The Chance last year trained full time at the Nike Academy based at Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.
This year, 16 of the best players, selected by Nike, from the global finals will then participate in the ultimate training tour as their reward; facing some of the best academy teams in world football, including Manchester United, Juventus and a U.S. Youth National Team during a 4 week tour.
From this group of 16 players, four players will be selected to train and play with the Nike Academy, now in its second year in partnership with the Premier League, based in the United Kingdom. This will form the last leg of the tour. One player will join the Nike Academy 2012/13 full time for three months and play with the team to showcase their talent to professional scouts and coaches.
