Sebastian Vettel made history in last night’s race as he won the first ever Formula One race at the magnificent Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. The German driver started the race from second on the grid, behind Lewis Hamilton, and challenged the race leader for the lead right from the first corner.

Despite his blinding pace in qualifying, Hamilton’s McLaren suffered from a rear brake failure, which left the Brit having to retire early in the race. Vettel assumed the lead and never looked back, hammering out fastest laps and everything the Red Bull car had to offer.

Team-mate Mark Webber played cover for the race leader Sebastian Vettel by protecting him with a second place, while 2009 World Champion Jenson Button finished with a third place.

Vettel now finishes the season in second place, ahead of Rubens Barrichello of Brawn GP and behind World Champion Jenson Button.
