Eton Dorney successfully hosted the 2006 World Rowing Championships and for London 2012 the facilities have been updated to ensure another well-run regatta for the world's best rowers. The venue, which is set in a 400-acre park, is also the setting for the canoe sprint races. The 2,200-metre long course has eight lanes, which are each 13.5m wide, and the venue also includes a separate return lane and warm-up area, with a new cut-through having been built to allow competitors to move between the main course and the return lake more easily. The venue is situated to the west of London in a nature conservation area and is near to Windsor Castle.
