Part of the national 'Road to London' programme, Rinong made history at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010 by becoming the country's first-ever diving gold medallist when she triumphed in the women's 10 metre platform event.
The diminutive teenager finished 27th at Beijing 2008 but raised expectations for London after winning a number of medals in the intervening four-year period.
Rinong's rise to prominence began in 2009 when she won bronze at the World Aquatic Championships in Rome in the women's 10m synchronised platform with Mun Yee Leong, before she hit the headlines in Delhi the following year, where she also claimed silver in the synchronised platform.
Two more silver medals in the 10m platform and 3m springboard then came later in the year at the inaugural Youth Olympics in Singapore.
Having suspended her studies last year to focus solely on London 2012, Rinong has enjoyed plenty of success in the FINA World Diving Series and also won silver in the 10m platform at last year's World University Games and bronze alongside Leong in the synchronised 10m platform.
A fifth-place finish in the 2011 World Aquatic Championships in Shanghai secured her place in London.
