The quickest rumour to spread amidst the initial hours of Dalglish's sacking was Wigan's Roberto Martinez. But with former director Ian Ayre stamping out that rumour on his exit as well, it seems as though the position of Liverpool manager remains vacant still.

Liverpool's American owners John W. Henry and Tom Werner of Fenway Sports Group have now got the challenge on their hands to find a suitable manager for the club. One that presumably befits the 'direction' of the club as FSG claims is very much needed.

Liverpool just might be in some luck at the moment. So it seems, there are a couple of big name managers without a job at the moment, and some that would jump at the chance to pull a squad like Liverpool out of the ditches, and restore glory to the Kop.

Here are our top five potential candidates to take over from King Kenny's reign as Liverpool manager.

I'm a fan of Liverpool since childhood. Lately, Liverpool played very bored and ineffective football games. In order to win the league, Liverpool must change their tactic by applying attacking football. Defensive football only effective for better counter attack teams or to avoid defeat (draw). To play attacking football, Liverpool should put the trust on Guardiola, Rijkaard, Villas-Boas or Mourinho.

I don't think Guardiola was sacked by Barcelona, he decided to take a break from the game.
