Barclays said Sunday it would extend its sponsorship of the Singapore Open until 2012 as the world recovers from the global financial crisis.

Golf has seen several sponsors pull the plug as the recession bites, but the banking giant said it believed the tournament, won by England's Ian Poulter on Sunday, had room to grow.

"This is a fantastic event for Barclays," said Robert Morrice, Barclays Asia-Pacific chairman and chief executive.

"We are excited about growing the tournament with an increased field of players from around the world as a cornerstone of our brand strategy."

The event, co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours, will next year see the field extended from 156 to 204 players with prize-money of at least five million dollars.
